Signing in with a passkey (Face ID, fingerprint or screen lock)

Add a passkey in My account, then sign in with Face ID, your fingerprint or your device's screen lock instead of your email, password and code.

A passkey lets you sign in with Face ID, your fingerprint or your device's screen lock instead of typing your email and password. Your phone or computer checks it's you, so there's no two-step code either, and a passkey can't be phished or guessed like a password. You add one yourself in Settings → My account, and keep your password as a backup.

Adding a passkey

Do this on your own phone or computer, not on a shared salon device.

  1. Open Settings → My account and, under Passkeys, choose Add a passkey.
  2. Enter Your password and choose Continue.
  3. Choose Create passkey. Your browser asks where to keep it: on this device, in your password manager, or on your phone. Confirm with Face ID, your fingerprint or your device's PIN.

The passkey shows under Passkeys, named for where it's kept (like iCloud Keychain or Google Password Manager) or the device you added it on. Synced means it's on your other devices too, through that password manager. You can have up to 10, so add one on each phone or computer you use if they don't sync.

Signing in with a passkey

  1. Go to app.fullcolumn.com, or your salon's own sign-in page.
  2. Choose Sign in with a passkey, or tap the Email field: many browsers offer your passkey there.
  3. Confirm it's you with Face ID, your fingerprint or your device's PIN.

You go straight into your salon, without a two-step code, even if your salon requires two-step sign-in. If you work at more than one salon, each salon has its own passkey for you, and the browser shows each with the salon's name beside your email: the one you choose decides where you sign in.

To sign in on a computer that doesn't have your passkey, choose Sign in with a passkey and use your phone: the browser shows a QR code to scan.

Removing a passkey

In Settings → My account, choose Remove beside the passkey, then Remove again. It stops working straight away, and browsers that can will stop offering it. You can still sign in with your email and password.

If you lose a phone that has your passkey on it, sign in somewhere else and remove it. Whoever manages your team can also remove all your passkeys with the Reset for a lost phone: see two-step sign-in.

Passkeys and shared salon devices

Passkeys can't be added on a shared salon device like the front desk iPad, where the next person could use them. You can still sign in there with a passkey on your phone: choose Use email and password on the lock screen, then Sign in with a passkey, and scan the QR code. Like any sign-in there, it ends when the device locks. See shared devices, PINs and Front desk.

Common questions

Do I still need my password?

Yes. Keep it: it's how you add a passkey, and how you sign in on a device without one. A passkey doesn't change your password.

Does a passkey count as two-step sign-in?

Yes. Your device checks it's you before the passkey works, so signing in with one never asks for a code, and it's fine where your salon requires two-step sign-in. Signing in with your password still asks for your code as before.

Why does my passkey say it isn't set up any more?

It was removed, in Settings → My account or by a team reset. Sign in with your email and password, then add a new one.

Can I use a passkey on the shared iPad's PIN screen?

No. PINs are for switching between people quickly on a shared device. A passkey signs in with Use email and password there instead.
