# Setting targets for your team

> Give each team member monthly or weekly targets for service and retail takings, new clients, average spend and rebooking, and see who's on track.

Source: https://docs.fullcolumn.com/reports/targets

Targets give each team member something to aim for each month (or each week): service takings, retail takings, new clients, average spend and rebooking rate. FullColumn shows how they're tracking as the month goes, on Team performance for you and on My performance and the Today page for them. Setting targets needs "See reports for the whole salon" (owners and managers to start with).

## Setting targets for your team

1. Open **Reports → Team performance**.
2. Press **Set targets**. It opens on the month (or week) you're looking at, or this one.
3. Use the arrows beside the month to move to another month.
4. Type each person's targets. Leave a box empty for no target.
5. Press **Save targets**.

The list has everyone on the team with a calendar column, and anyone who already has targets for that month. To give everyone the same target, fill in the **Everyone** row at the top and press **Apply to all**: it fills in those boxes for each person, leaving the rest as they are. **Copy September's** (the month before) fills everyone's targets from the month before, to check and save. **Clear all** empties every box.

## What you can set a target for

Each target is for the whole month (or week). The figures are worked out as Team performance does: see [how each Team performance figure is worked out](https://docs.fullcolumn.com/reports/team-performance#how-each-team-performance-figure-is-worked-out).

| Target | Type it as | How progress is measured |
| ------------------- | ------------ | ---------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Service takings** | Dollars | A running total, compared with a share of the target as the month goes |
| **Retail takings** | Dollars | A running total, compared with a share of the target as the month goes |
| **New clients** | A number | A running total, compared with a share of the target as the month goes |
| **Average spend** | Dollars | The average so far, compared with the target itself |
| **Rebooking rate** | A percentage | The rate so far, compared with the target itself |

## Monthly or weekly targets

Targets are set per month to start with. To set them per week instead, press **Per week** at the top of the targets window, then **Set per week**. Weeks start on your salon's first day of the week. The choice is for the whole salon, and changing it keeps the targets already set the other way: they still show when you look at those months or weeks.

With weekly targets, Team performance and My performance open on this week, and the targets window moves a week at a time.

## How progress against a target is worked out

Takings and new clients build up over the month, so while it's on, FullColumn compares them with a share of the target that matches how much of the person's **rostered time** has gone by. Someone rostered on for the first half of the month only needs to keep pace with their own hours, not the calendar. Without a roster, it goes by the calendar.

For example, with a $10,000 service takings target and 40% of their rostered hours this month gone by, someone is on track with $4,000 or more. New clients round down: 4 a month needs 1 by about a quarter of the way through.

Average spend and rebooking rate aren't running totals, so they're compared with the target itself.

Each target shows a bar, "$4,250 of $10,000 · $5,750 to go", a mark for where on track is today, and how it's going:

| Status | Means |
| ------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Target reached** | They've reached the target (running totals, at any time). |
| **On track** | They're at or above where they should be by now, or (for average spend and rebooking) at or above the target this month. |
| **Behind** | They're below where they should be by now (for average spend and rebooking, below the target). |
| **Missed** | The month is over and they didn't reach it. |
| **Not started** | The month hasn't started yet, or there's nothing to measure yet. |

## Where targets show

- **Team performance**, when the dates are a whole month or week, or this one so far (**This month**, **Last month**, **Pick a month**). It shows each person's targets, how many are on track ("3 of 4 on track", or "reached" once it's over), and, when more than one person has targets, a **Team total** adding up their running-total targets.
- **My performance**, for each team member: **Your targets for October 2026**, with how much of their rostered time has gone by. See [My performance](https://docs.fullcolumn.com/reports/my-performance).
- **The Today page**, for team members with a calendar column: **Your October so far** (or **Your week so far**), with up to three of their targets, or their takings, rebooking rate and new clients when they have none.

For any other dates, Team performance says which to choose to see progress.

## Common questions

### Can different people have different targets?

Yes. Each person has their own, and any of the five can be left empty. **Apply to all** is just a quick way to fill them in.

### Can I set targets for next month now?

Yes. Move to next month with the arrows in the targets window. Until the month starts, its targets show as **Not started**.

### Why is someone behind when they've had a good week?

Running totals are measured against their rostered time gone by. If most of their hours fall early in the month, they need to be further along early on.

### Do targets change pay?

No. Targets only show progress. Commission comes from each person's commission rates: see [commission rates](https://docs.fullcolumn.com/team/commission).

### Can team members see each other's targets?

No. Team members see only their own targets and numbers, on My performance and the Today page. Team performance, with everyone's, needs "See reports for the whole salon".
