# Using FullColumn on a Mac or Windows computer

> Put FullColumn in your Mac's Dock or on the Windows taskbar, so it opens in its own window, with alerts and a count of what's waiting on its icon.

FullColumn runs in the web browser on any computer, so there's nothing to download. Install it from the browser and it becomes an app on that computer: it opens in its own window from the Dock or the taskbar, without the browser's tabs and address bar, and its icon shows how many client replies and booking requests are waiting.

## Putting FullColumn in your Mac's Dock

**In Safari** (version 17 or later):

1. Go to **app.fullcolumn.com** and sign in.
2. Choose **File → Add to Dock**, then **Add**.
3. Open FullColumn from the Dock, and turn alerts on inside it (below).

Safari brings your sign-in across when you add it. From then on the Dock app keeps its own sign-in and alerts, separate from Safari's.

**In Chrome or Edge**: open **app.fullcolumn.com** and press the install button at the right of the address bar, or **Install** in **Settings → My account → Phones and computers**. FullColumn opens in its own window, and you can keep it in the Dock like any other app.

## Putting FullColumn on the Windows taskbar

1. In Chrome or Edge, go to **app.fullcolumn.com** and sign in.
2. Press the install button at the right of the address bar, or **Install** in **Settings → My account → Phones and computers**.
3. FullColumn opens in its own window. Right-click its icon on the taskbar and choose **Pin to taskbar** to keep it there.

## What the installed FullColumn app does on a computer

- **Its own window**, from the Dock, the taskbar or the Start menu, which you can switch to like any other app.
- **Alerts** for new online bookings, client replies and the rest, as on a phone. Turn them on in **Settings → My account → Phones and computers** ([team alerts](https://docs.fullcolumn.com/messages/team-alerts)).
- **A count on its icon** of the client replies you haven't read and the booking requests waiting, as of when you last had it open. In Safari's Dock app, it shows once alerts are allowed there.
- **The salon you used last**: it opens app.fullcolumn.com, which takes you straight there while you're signed in. If you work at more than one salon, switch from the menu.

Everything else is the FullColumn you have in the browser, card readers, printing and downloads included, and it's always the latest: there's nothing to update.

To have FullColumn open when your Mac starts, add it in **System Settings → General → Login Items**.

## The salon's front desk computer

A computer the whole team uses should be set up as a **shared device**, so team members switch with a PIN and it locks itself when nobody's using it. Install FullColumn on it first and set it up from inside the installed app, so that's what opens at the lock screen:

1. Open FullColumn from the Dock or the taskbar, and sign out if you're signed in.
2. On the sign-in page, choose **Set up a shared device**.
3. Enter the code from **Settings → Team & roster → Shared devices**.

## Common questions

### Is there a FullColumn app for Mac or Windows?

Not in the Mac App Store or the Microsoft Store: install FullColumn from Safari, Chrome or Edge instead, and it works as an app does, in its own window with alerts. The FullColumn app in the App Store is for iPhone and iPad ([phones and tablets](https://docs.fullcolumn.com/getting-started/phones-and-tablets)).

### I get every alert twice on my Mac

Alerts are on in both Safari and the Dock app. Open FullColumn in Safari, go to **Settings → My account → Phones and computers** and choose **Turn off here**, or remove the older device from the list there.

### I can't see File → Add to Dock in Safari

It's in Safari 17 and later. Update your Mac in **System Settings → General → Software Update**, or install FullColumn from Chrome or Edge instead.
