# Exporting your client list

> Download your clients as a spreadsheet (CSV) with their contact details, birthday, notes, marketing choices, last visit and spend.

Source: https://docs.fullcolumn.com/clients/export

You can download your whole client list as one spreadsheet at any time: names, contact details, birthdays, notes, marketing choices, last visit and spend. It opens in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets.

## Downloading your client list

1. Open **Clients** and press **Export** (on a phone, the download icon), or open **Settings → Import & export** and press **Download all clients (CSV)** under **Client list**.
2. The file downloads straight away, named "clients-" with today's date.

Exporting needs two permissions: "Import, export, merge and remove clients" and "See clients’ phone numbers and email addresses". Owners have every permission. On a shared device set to Front desk, it asks for your password first ([shared devices](https://docs.fullcolumn.com/team/shared-devices)).

## What's in the client list export

One row a client, sorted by last name, then first name. Clients you've removed aren't included.

| Column | What it holds |
| --------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| id | FullColumn's number for the client |
| first_name, last_name | Their names |
| email, phone | Their email and mobile, as entered |
| birthday | Year-month-day (2026-03-14); a birthday without a year is month and day (--03-14) |
| address, tags, alert, notes | As on their card. **notes** is the **Notes** box, not the dated notes on **Formulas & notes** |
| marketing_email | 1 if they get marketing emails, 0 if not |
| marketing_sms | 1 if they get marketing texts, 0 if not |
| feedback_requests | 1 if they're asked for feedback after a visit, 0 if they've said no |
| created_at | When they were added, in UTC (universal time, so near midnight it can show the next or previous day) |
| last_visit | The date and time of their last visit |
| spend_cents | Everything they've spent, in cents (12550 is $125.50), less tips, with imported past visits |

Names with accents show properly in Excel, and anything typed in that looks like a spreadsheet formula starts with an apostrophe, so it can't run when the file is opened.

## Getting more than the client list

The client list export is just your clients. For everything else, use **Download everything** in **Settings → Import & export**: every client (removed ones too) with their patch test, reminder choices, usual stylist, visits and next appointment, plus appointments, sales, notes and colour formulas, messages and photos ([downloading everything](https://docs.fullcolumn.com/settings/download-everything)). It's the owner's by default.

## Common questions

### Why can't I see the Export button?

It needs two permissions: "Import, export, merge and remove clients", and "See clients’ phone numbers and email addresses", since the file has every client's contact details. Without the second, **Clients** has no **Export**, and **Settings → Import & export** says which permission is missing under **Client list**. Ask your salon's owner ([roles and permissions](https://docs.fullcolumn.com/team/roles-and-permissions)).

### Can I use the export as a mailing list?

It has everyone's email and mobile, with **marketing_email** and **marketing_sms** saying who agreed to marketing. To send marketing from FullColumn, use a campaign instead: it only goes to clients who've agreed, and skips anyone who's opted out ([marketing campaigns](https://docs.fullcolumn.com/messages/campaigns)).
